NSCDC arrests truck driver, scrap dealer, online scammers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has arrested four suspects for various offences.

The Lagos State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, made this disclosure while addressing newsmen this Monday at the Command’s Headquarters, Alausa, Ikeja. He said the investigation showed that the suspects used fake alerts to swindle business owners, intimidate, and impersonate with army camouflage uniforms and berets using multiple phone numbers to communicate with their victims.

One of the suspects, Ahmed Hamisu, male, 28, from Adamawa State, had mastered the act of operating fake payment receipts for online purchases to scam unsuspecting victims and general members of the public.

Another suspect, Olamilekan Olowookere, male, 29, from Osun State, specialised in the deliberate vandalisation of a truck he was employed to drive.

The patrol team of the Command arrested Olowookere around the Guinness axis of Ikeja last Monday, January 27, 2025, at about 0900hrs, alongside two others: Abba Idris (a scrap dealer), 28, Kano State and Ejitunde Wasiu (vulcanizer), 48, Osun State, for damaging and dismembering the truck he was employed to drive but later found to have sold the parts as scraps to his potential buyers.

On the other hand, Hamisu was caught on Sunday, January 24, 2025, at about 4 pm, at Orege Road, Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, by operatives of the command after they received information from two victims of Hamisu and his group.

At the time of this report, Yinusa, Mohammed, and some other members of the group are still being looked for by operatives of the commission.

Keshinro urged the general public to be aware of the evil activities of online scammers, adding that members of the public should desist from transacting businesses with people they have no relationship with.

He also cautioned vandals to discontinue their evil acts as punishments will be meted out by the law.
