Six die, six rescued in Kano fire outbreak

A fire outbreak in Kano State has resulted in the deaths of at least six people, while six others were rescued in January 2025, according to the State Fire Service.

Confirming the figures on Tuesday, a fire service official, Kabiru Isah Jaafar, speaking on behalf of the agency’s spokesman, Saminu Yusif, revealed that properties worth an estimated N1.19 billion were salvaged during the period under review.

Jaafar disclosed that the Fire Service, under the supervision of its Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, responded to emergency calls from 29 fire stations across the state throughout the month.

“In January 2025, the State Fire Service received 56 fire calls, including 10 rescue calls and seven false alarms,” the statement read.

He also urged residents to take extra precautions to prevent fire incidents, particularly during the harmattan season, which is known for increasing fire risks.

“I want to appeal to the general public to handle fire with care to avoid outbreaks, especially during this dry season. Motorists are also advised to drive cautiously and adhere to traffic regulations, particularly on highways, to prevent accidents,” he added.
