The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has confirmed that 789 ex-terrorist combatants are currently undergoing rehabilitation under the De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) programme of Operation Safe Corridor.
Speaking at the OPSC Stakeholders meeting in Abuja this Tuesday, Musa, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, AVM Sayo Olatunde, said the 789 ex-combatants are expected to graduate before the year ends.
He explained that the program was launched following the mass surrender of over 120,000 insurgents and their families, adding that the initiative was established to reintegrate surrendered Boko Haram and ISWAP members into society.
Musa also revealed that discussions at the meeting focused on strategies for reintegrating the first batch of 391 rehabilitated individuals into their respective states.
He commended stakeholders for their commitment but stressed that more work remains to ensure national security.
Between July and November 2024, 825 new clients entered the DRR Camp, including 14 foreigners, while 22 were referred to a neuropsychiatric hospital for evaluation. The meeting aimed to finalise reintegration plans for those currently in the camp, with their graduation scheduled for March.
