The Lagos State Police Command has exhumed the body of a 28-year-old Lagos State University graduate, Adedamola Ogunbode, who had been declared missing since January 16, 2024.
The remains of Ogunbode, a political science education graduate, were discovered in a shallow grave behind the LASU fence at the university’s Ojo campus.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the police had earlier arrested four suspects in connection with the case, while a manhunt is ongoing for four others allegedly linked to Ogunbode’s murder.
The suspects were said to have transferred the funds from the deceased’s bank account and shared the money among themselves.
Speaking at the site of the exhumation, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said one of the suspects led investigators to the burial location.
“January 16 was when all this started after a report was received by the Ojo Police Division that the young man went missing,” Hundeyin said.
“After the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, assumed duty on February 18, he ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. That was when the matter was upgraded from a missing person’s case to suspected murder.”
Hundeyin confirmed that one of the arrested suspects confessed to the crime and guided officers to the gravesite.
“Now that we have seen the body, the investigation is gradually coming to an end. We will intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects,” he added.
The police spokesperson assured Lagos residents that the suspects would be prosecuted and justice served.
“We commiserate with the family of the deceased. We also thank the Lagos State Government for its immense support in crime fighting,” Hundeyin said.
