In a remarkable display of coordination and bravery, the Kwara State Police Command has rescued five individuals who were kidnapped by armed assailants in Isanlu Isin, in the Isin local government area of Kwara State. The victims, who were taken captive after a series of gunshots between Ijara Isin and Isanlu Isin, were found in a forest near the area on Saturday night, thanks to the combined efforts of local hunters, vigilantes, and police officers.
According to a press statement released by the state’s police command, those freed include Femi Ajayi, a deacon of First Baptist Church, Isanlu Isin, along with his father, Mr Dipe Ajayi. Also rescued were Kunle Abolarin and Femi Abolarin, both from Oke-Aran, Isanlu-Isin. Additionally, Mr Oke Olatunji, who had been kidnapped in a Toyota Sienna bus used by the criminals, was found safe and sound.
The statement, issued early on Sunday morning by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, reported that the kidnapping incident occurred on July 13, 2023, at approximately 5:00 pm in Isanlu-Isin.
Following the directives of the Commissioner of Police, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, stationed in the Isin axis, swiftly mobilized alongside local hunters and vigilantes to pursue the abductors. Their determined efforts forced the kidnappers to abandon the Siena bus that carried the victims during the incident. Subsequently, one of the hostages, Oke Olatunji, was rescued by the team.
Continuing their dedication to the mission, the Commissioner of Police personally led a special tactical team in a search and rescue operation within the forests of Isin. During this operation, another captive named Femi Ajayi, who had sustained a bullet injury, was successfully rescued and is currently receiving medical attention at the health center in Isanlu-Isin.
In a crucial meeting at the palace of HRH Oba Olugbenga Oloyede Solomon, the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, the Commissioner of Police engaged with vigilantes, hunters, and other community leaders. The gathering served as a platform to discuss the challenges affecting the area and to implement strategies and plans to prevent further incidents. Meanwhile, relentless efforts are being undertaken to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend the criminals responsible for this heinous act.
