[13:19, 7/17/2023] Bewerk Designs: Troops of the 192 Battalion of the Nigerian Army operating in the 81 Division Area of Responsibility have disrupted an international ammunition smuggling operation. On July 15, 2023, the troops received actionable intelligence and conducted a thorough Stop and Search operation along Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North LGA of Ogun State. They discovered a truck, with registration number ENU 697 XY, carrying a significant amount of smuggled ammunition destined for Anambra State.

Inside the truck, the troops found 720 packets of Red Star Cartridges of 12 Calibre, each containing 25 cartridges, resulting in a total of 18,000 cartridges. Additionally, they discovered 250 packets of live (black) cartridges, with 10 packets in each, totaling 2,500 cartridges of the same calibre. The suspects involved in the smuggling operation, Mr. Eric Seworvor, a Ghanaian national, and the driver, Mr. Lukman Sani, have been apprehended and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the ammunition was concealed within an apparently empty truck and was imported from Mali through the Idiroko International Border. The criminals responsible had managed to evade multiple checkpoints along their route to their intended destination in Onitsha, Anambra State, where they planned to deliver the illegal ammunition. Thanks to the prompt action of the vigilant troops, the potential dangers posed by such a large quantity of ammunition were averted, protecting innocent members of the public.

The Nigerian Army urges all law-abiding citizens to continue supporting the troops and other security agencies by providing credible and actionable information as they work to address security challenges across the country.
