Kano State Police Command to Crack Down on Blacksmiths Producing Weapons for Criminals
The Kano State Police Command recently announced its plans to launch a crackdown on blacksmiths in the area involved in manufacturing weapons for criminals. Commissioner of Police Mohammed Gumel revealed this during a press briefing, highlighting the police’s efforts to eradicate criminal activities in the Dala Hills region of the state.
Gumel presented a range of knives, clearly not designed for domestic use, but rather intended for inflicting harm on human beings. These knives closely resemble those wielded by law enforcement officers and the military, raising concerns about their availability to criminals.
According to Gumel, blacksmiths in the region are producing these weapons without considering the destructive consequences, solely focused on making profits by selling them to criminals at low prices. These criminals then use these weapons to carry out attacks, robbing innocent citizens and resorting to violence when met with resistance.
In an effort to curb this issue, the Commissioner of Police has sent out invitations to blacksmiths for a dialogue session. During this meeting, they will be educated about the dangers associated with producing weapons for the general public.
Gumel emphasized the need for blacksmiths to verify the intentions of customers before fulfilling their orders. It is crucial for blacksmiths to determine if the customers are legitimate tradespeople, such as butchers, and inquire about the purpose of the weapons being requested.
The Kano State Police Command’s initiative aims to halt the production and circulation of weapons used in criminal activities, ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
