President Tinubu Promises Port Harcourt Refineries to Begin Fuel Production in December after Rehabilitation Contract Completion
President Bola Tinubu has provided reassurance to the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) that the Port Harcourt refineries will commence fuel production by December this year. This announcement follows the ongoing rehabilitation contract between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Italian firm Maire Tecnimont SpA. The President made this commitment during a meeting with the unions, urging them to collaborate with him in building a better and economically prosperous Nigeria. He also emphasized his dedication to working in the best interests of the country.
The fixing of the nation’s refineries was among the demands put forth by the organized Labor following the removal of fuel subsidy, as a measure to address the increasing price of petroleum products.
In a statement released by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, it was revealed that the Labour Leaders, after engaging in fruitful discussions with President Tinubu and expressing confidence in his ability to consider the issues presented by the Labour Movement openly and honestly, have decided to halt further protests. Instead, they have chosen to pursue further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding matters that have an impact on the working people and the general Nigerian population.
President Tinubu’s commitment to the Labour leaders guarantees that the Port Harcourt refineries will commence production by December 2023 after the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and Maire Tecnimont SpA.
