Niger’s Military Junta to Recall Ambassador to Nigeria Following Failed ECOWAS Talks on Democracy Restoration
Niger’s military junta, led by General Abdourahmane Tchiani, intends to recall the Nigerien Ambassador to Nigeria after failing to reach an agreement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) delegation on the restoration of democracy in Niger.
Additionally, the junta plans to recall Nigerien Ambassadors to Togo, the United States, and France, as part of its initiative to expel French and US troops from the country. Alongside this, the junta has announced the termination of all Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreements between France and the Republic of Niger.
Sources within the defense sector, who were present at the ongoing meeting in Niamey, the capital of Niger, have confirmed these developments. The negotiations between the junta and ECOWAS have proven unsuccessful, prompting the junta to announce the recall of Niger’s Ambassadors to Nigeria, Togo, France, and the US.
Furthermore, the junta revealed its intentions to evict French and US troops from the Niger Republic, emphasizing the termination of all MoU agreements between France and Niger.
