On August 11, 2023, Sector 1, Hadarin Daji troops deployed at FOB Mada, Marke general area, Zamfara state, conducted a routine patrol along the Shemori-Yandoto road, and were ambushed by an unknown number of armed bandits.
The troops put up a fierce fight with the bandits for hours, and eventually the bandits got away in a mess. The OPHD troops followed them into the woods, but had to leave two civilians behind. They recovered two of the bandits’ motorcycles. OPHD troops rescued Dr. Hassan Augie and his son who the bandits had abducted from their home late last night.. I reunited them with their families today, and the troops stayed vigilant and patrolled the area.
