Businesses suffer as Nigeria closes its border with Niger.

Nigeria’s border closure with Niger has caused huge losses for food and consumer goods transport companies..

Trucks and buses carrying goods are stuck at the border, causing delays and raising costs..

Jibiya and Kongolam are the two largest border crossings between Katsina and Niger Republic. The highways connecting the two areas are frequently congested, with delivery trucks and buses transporting raw food, grains, animals, and other consumer products.

However, the situation changed after Nigeria opted to block its border with its neighbor.

Businesses in border areas have essentially come to a halt as vehicles carrying commodities have been stalled at the gates for over two weeks.

Trucks are filled with garri, beans, wheat, tiger nuts, and dates. However, the drivers and owners of the items have had to wait indefinitely. They cannot drive out of Nigeria, nor can they enter the Niger Republic, even though the target country is physically right in front of them.
