“The corps members were taken into the bush after being unloaded from the bus,” he claimed.
On Saturday, gunmen abducted eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members along a highway in Zamfara State, Nigeria’s North-West geopolitical zone.
The corps members were travelling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State to report for their mandatory national service when the gunmen intercepted their bus along a highway in Zamfara.
An anonymous source confirmed the incident, stating that the corps members were 11, but three managed to escape from the kidnappers, according to Premium Times.
The source also confirmed that the bus driver was abducted alongside the eight corps members.
“The corps members were taken into the bush after being unloaded from the bus,” he claimed. “The police have recovered the bus.”
“They left Uyo on Friday and stayed in Abuja.” They were kidnapped while on their way to Sokoto, according to the source.
Malachy Blessed, a Facebook user, disclosed the identify of one of the abducted corps members as Emmanuel Esudue, an agricultural and environmental engineering graduate from Akwa Ibom State University, at 9:14 a.m. on Sunday.
He stated that the corps member’s phone number has been inaccessible since Thursday.
Betty Udofia was named as another victim of the event.
According to Edidiong Charles, a Facebook user, the kidnappers had contacted Betty Udofia’s parents and demanded an N4 million ransom.
Attempts to obtain an official reply from NYSC spokesperson Eddy Megwa were futile since he did not answer his calls.
When reached, the police spokesman in Zamfara, Yazid Abubakar, stated he would investigate the issue and get back to us.
