The number of Nigerians killed in a boat catastrophe in Niger State on Sunday has grown from 26 to 30.
Hussaine Ibrahim, spokesman for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA, confirmed this Monday night in a short WhatsApp post to PUNCH, saying it included three male children and 27 women.
Hussain also said that four settlements in Mokwa LGA were affected: Gbajibo, Yankyade, Biagi, and Ekwa.
He told PUNCH over the phone that most of the rescued victims were still in shock and unable to communicate when they arrived in the villages on Monday.
According to him, the majority of the people on the boat were women on their way to the farm.
Earlier, on Sunday, a boat carrying over 100 passengers sank in Niger State’s Mokwa Local Government Area, killing 30 people. Another 30 people were saved.
