Next week, the Federal Government and Lagos State Government will start fixing the Third Mainland Bridge to stop accidents from potholes..
The bridge will be closed for two consecutive Sundays, September 17 and 24, for remedial work to be done by the state government, via the Lagos Public Works Corporation, LPWC, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Works.
Motorists have continued to complain about the bridge’s poor condition, which includes several potholes that have caused accidents.
While the state government’s plans for the future Fourth Mainland Bridge have proceeded, citizens believe the Third Mainland Bridge is overstressed.
Abdulhafiz Toriola, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, confirmed the planned rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge, which will begin next week, saying it will allow for uninterrupted rehabilitation work because traffic will be diverted during construction to ensure early completion of the work.
The bridge will be closed for two consecutive Sundays.
Toriola, who stated this yesterday, noted that the work will take place between September 17 and 24, 2023, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“The proposed works will strictly be executed in two phases, with phase one focusing on only the most critical sections on the Iyana-Oworonsoki inward Adeniji Adele/Lagos Island,” he stated.
Toriola added that the palliative improvements were planned for Sundays in order to minimize annoyance to motorists.
