The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has charged battalion commanders to demonstrate exemplary leadership to effectively tackle emerging security threats across the country.
Oluyede made it known in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, while addressing participants at the just-concluded First Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2025, held at the Headquarters of 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan.
Oluyede described battalion commanders as a critical link between operational and tactical command levels and urged them to embrace responsibility, accountability, and moral courage in leading their troops.
The army chief emphasized the need for commanders to brace up to address national security challenges within their areas of responsibility, remain loyal to the government, and uphold the constitution.
He commended the Chief of Training (Army), Maj.-Gen. Sadiq Ndalolo, and his team for organizing the workshop, while appreciating President Bola Tinubu for supporting the army’s transformation efforts.
During his visit to the division, Oluyede praised troops for their sacrifices in combating security threats and assured them that their welfare remains a top priority.
He pledged regular provision of uniforms, combat kits, improved accommodation, access to soft loans, increased Ration Cash and Instructors’ Allowances, and affordable housing schemes.
He also inaugurated key facilities, including a Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants Station and a Military Police Holding Facility, while approving the rehabilitation of the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and the 81 Battalion Officers’ Mess.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. Obinna Onubogu, noted that the workshop aimed to reinforce the COAS’s vision for a motivated, combat-ready army.
He said it also provided battalion commanders with enhanced tactical, strategic, and leadership skills to improve operational efficiency across various theatres of operations.
