The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Umar Grema, 26, and Mohammed Bukar, 28, for allegedly defrauding Point of Sale (POS) operators while impersonating military personnel.
Police spokesperson Nahum Daso, in a statement this Thursday, said the suspects had been on the police watchlist for repeated fraud and impersonation in Maiduguri.
“On January 22, 2025, at about 10:30 hrs, operatives of the State Intelligence Department arrested the suspects near the Post Office area while attempting to defraud a POS operator,” Daso said.
Investigations revealed that one suspect often wore a military vest to deceive victims. Items recovered include two Android phones, four ATM cards, a military camouflage vest, and ₦100,000.
The case remains under investigation, and the suspects will soon be charged in court.
Police urged POS operators to stay vigilant and exercise caution during transactions.
