One student has been confirmed dead, and four others sustained injuries after a corridor of a classroom block collapsed at Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC) Potiskum, Yobe State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Bukar Aji, confirmed that the injured students, all in SSII, are receiving treatment at Specialist Hospital in Potiskum.
The incident occurred around noon this Thursday as students were about to go for their lunch break.
He stated that the State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been contacted to investigate the root cause of the collapse and submit a report.
While sympathising with the family of the deceased student and those injured, Aji assured that the government remains committed to maintaining its structures to prevent future occurrences.
