COMBINED TROOPS NEUTRALIZE ESN/IPOB FIGHTERS IN ENCOUNTER

In a successful operation, combined troops from the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, the Nigeria Police, and the Department of State Services have neutralized two fighters from the IPOB/ESN group and apprehended five others. The encounter, which took place on July 17, 2023, at the Fuji Junction area in Asaba, Delta state, was a response to distress calls indicating an attack on the community by these terrorists. The troops swiftly engaged and overpowered the terrorists, resulting in the death of two fighters and the retreat of the remaining individuals to a hideout near Okpanam river.

The determined troops pursued the fleeing criminals and successfully tracked them down to a house near Okpanam river, where they were captured. During the operation, the troops recovered various weapons, including an AK 47 Rifle, a Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, an AK 47 Rifle Magazine, and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.

We call on the public to continue supporting the security agencies by providing valuable information that can aid their efforts in addressing security challenges.

Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, commended the combined troops for their exceptional performance and urged them to maintain their effective cooperation as they work towards restoring peace and stability in the region.

Signed,
