The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Delta State Command, has refuted claims that its officers released inmates for ‘Omila operations’ (a term suggestive of robbery) before returning them to custody.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Allen Iloba, revealed it this Tuesday, dismissing the claims as false, malicious, and a figment of the writer’s imagination.
Iloba said the claim was fabricated to disrupt the peace in Warri and drag the reputation of NCoS into the mud.”
He further clarified that no inmate on death row or under any other guise is allowed near the facility’s gate, let alone released for criminal activities.
The allegations were written by a social media user, Warri Aproko II, who accused wardens at the Okere Medium Security Custodial Centre, Warri, of releasing inmates for criminal activities.
Dismissing the report’s credibility, Iloba pointed out that the source, ‘Warri Aproko II’, lacks an official office, email, or contact details, operating only through an anonymous Facebook account that posts unverified stories.
The Delta State NCoS Command urged media organizations to verify their reports before publication to avoid misleading the public.
