The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified that its operatives were deployed to the Lagos State House of Assembly at the lawmakers’ request to provide security, not to “storm” the Assembly as some reports suggested.

In a statement issued this Monday, the DSS explained that the Assembly had formally requested heightened security in a letter dated February 14, 2025.

The DSS dismissed claims that it forcibly sealed the offices of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, stating the deployment was in response to security concerns raised by the Assembly.

The letter warned of credible information about plans to reinstate the impeached Speaker, which was expected to occur on February 18, 2025, and could pose a security threat to the Assembly and its members.

The DSS further emphasised that its actions were aimed at maintaining order and ensuring safety at the Assembly in line with the lawmakers’ request.

The letter, signed by the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. A.T.B. Ottun, also asked the DSS and other security agencies to increase their presence and enforce strict access control at the Assembly premises starting from February 16, 2025.
