Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has disclosed that his administration inherited a 13-year backlog of unpaid insurance claims for families of deceased police officers.
Egbetokun disclosed it while speaking in Abuja this Tuesday at the unveiling of the Police Insurance Claims Management Portal and the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries.
He said N17.8 billion had already been disbursed to 6,465 beneficiaries in eight previous payouts, assuring a fresh batch of N3 billion for 706 beneficiaries, bringing the total amount paid so far to N20.8 billion for 7,171 families.
The IG also launched a digital portal aimed at streamlining insurance claims processing and inaugurated a nationwide training program for insurance desk officers to enhance efficiency and transparency.
He urged officers to embrace the digital transformation and make use of the portal to improve welfare administration within the police force.
