IGP Deploys Security Personnel to Rivers as Tensions Rise

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to Rivers State to strengthen security and protect lives and property.

Force PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi said it in a statement on Thursday that the operatives will work with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The police warned that any unlawful protests or activities threatening public peace will be met with the full force of the law.

Citizens were urged to remain calm and law-abiding, while security forces remain vigilant and ready to act against any threats.

This comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State Assembly members for six months. Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd) has been appointed Sole Administrator of the state.
