Popular Imo Broadcast Journalist Arrested by Police in Owerri Blitz
A renowned broadcast journalist in Imo State, Chinonso Uba, widely known as NonsoNkwa, was unexpectedly apprehended by police officers on Thursday morning. The arrest followed Uba’s completion of his morning program on Ozisa FM, situated near Assumpta Cathedral of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese.
While driving his Highlander jeep, Uba was intercepted by the officers, who had laid a siege at the Holy Ghost College Secondary School junction. Eyewitnesses reported that the policemen, masked and clad in black and blue, were traveling in a Hilux vehicle, a Lexus 350 Jeep, and an ES 330 car.
During the incident, the police forcibly placed the activist journalist in one of their vehicles before swiftly departing the scene. Surprisingly, Uba’s abandoned jeep was left behind.
Distressed witnesses caught glimpses of the arrest but were prevented from recording any video footage. One witness conveyed concerns for the journalist’s safety, recalling how Uba resisted the officers’ actions, fearing for his life.
Confirmation of the arrest came from Rev. Fr. Raymond Nzereogu, the manager of Ozisa FM, who had visited the police command headquarters and saw Uba in the custody of the law enforcement officials.
Responding to requests for comment, Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson in the state, indicated that he was unavailable at the time due to a meeting.
