Nigerian Customs Service found 200 donkey skins, 127 bags of 50 kg rice, and other illegal items..
S K Abdullahi, the area’s comptroller, revealed this to media on Thursday in Yola, Adamawa State’s capital.
According to Abdullahi, the seizures occurred in August and had a paid duty value of N19,419,051.
He emphasized, “The seizure of the donkey skin was specially carried out in collaboration with the Federal Operation Unit and the Customs Intelligence Unit.”
Schedule 6 of the Common External Tariff (2022-2026) and Section 150 of the new Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 forbids donkey exporting.
The export ban is aligned with the government’s policies for protecting endangered species, local economies, and national forests.”
The donkey is listed as an endangered species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), to which Nigeria is a signatory, according to Abdullahi.
Abdullahi reported that they found 127 bags of foreign rice and 12,355 liters of fuel.”
The Comptroller warned smugglers that they are being watched and advised them to stop their illegal activities..
