Niger police officer allegedly commits suicide in Kontagora

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the alleged suicide of one of its officers, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, in Kontagora town. 

According to the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on February 8 and was reported by the officer’s father, Usman Bawa, a resident of the Rigasa area in Kontagora. 

Bawa was found hanging from the ceiling, and his lifeless body was taken to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.

The remains were later released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. 

Abiodun stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death, assuring that further updates will be provided in due course.
