On July 26, democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum was ousted, prompting the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Tinubu, to impose sanctions including power outages and border closures.
On Thursday, the ECOWAS special conference decided to deploy standby military soldiers to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic.
Ango Abdullahi, the convener of the NEF, voiced caution about the use of force to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic, implying that it was unlikely to have favorable consequences.
He emphasized that lifting sanctions would make discussions easier, and he wanted diplomacy to triumph.
According to Abdullahi, “Nigeria should lift all sanctions and other measures aimed at coercing the government and people of Niger into submission.” This will make it simpler for Nigeria to lead discussions, including all assets that both nations value. The use of force against Niger must be avoided.
