Two people have been killed when a small plane crashed on a major avenue in São Paulo, Brazil, before skidding into a bus.

According to firefighter chief Ronaldo Melo in a statement to newsmen this Friday, the aircraft slid hundreds of meters along the avenue before colliding with a bus and exploding.

The victims, identified as the pilot and sole passenger, were aboard the King Air F90 aircraft, which had just taken off from Campo de Marte Airport, a hub for domestic flights.

Melo said passengers on the bus managed to escape adding that six people sustained injuries.

However, it remains unclear whether the pilot had been attempting an emergency landing shortly after takeoff.

Melo said authorities have launched an investigation, with officials taking photos and interviewing witnesses at the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
