President Tinubu Expresses Sadness and Urges Unity to Address Plateau State Killings
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness and grief over the recent wave of violence and killings in Plateau State. He strongly condemned the internecine killings in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as well as parts of Benue State.
President Tinubu described the ongoing reprisal attacks and bloodshed among communities as both distressing and unnecessary. He particularly highlighted the tragic death of an eight-month-old baby in the Farin Lamba community of Vwang District, Jos South Local Government, who lost her life in a conflict she had no part in.
The President emphasized the tragic loss of innocent lives as a major consequence of recurring conflicts. He stressed that the path to building vibrant, peaceful, and prosperous communities lies in tolerance and forgiveness for perceived wrongdoings.
In order to rebuild trust and restore harmony in the conflict-stricken areas, President Tinubu called on community leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, socio-cultural organizations, and the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and Christian Association of Nigeria to collaborate in fostering genuine and long-lasting peace.
President Tinubu reassured his government’s strong commitment to eradicating violent crimes and all forms of criminal activities throughout Nigeria. He has directed security agencies to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind these despicable acts, ensuring they face the full force of the law.
Furthermore, President Tinubu urged the governments of Plateau and Benue States, as well as emergency response agencies, to provide immediate support and relief to the victims who have been displaced as a result of the conflicts.
Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President for Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, conveyed President Tinubu’s statements on July 11, 2023.
