Police bust one-chance syndicate, arrest five in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended five suspected members of a “One Chance” syndicate, including three women, along the Trans-Amadi axis of Port Harcourt.

The arrests followed a distress call from a female victim who raised the alarm after she was attacked and robbed by the occupants of a moving vehicle.

Spokesperson for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. According to the statement, officers from the ‘Surveillance Patrol Team’ attached to a popular mall in the city responded swiftly, tracking down and intercepting the suspects along NLNG Road, Eastern Bypass.

“The Rivers State Police Command has made another significant breakthrough, apprehending five suspects allegedly involved in a ‘One Chance’ syndicate,” the statement read.

The suspects were identified as Ifeanyi Ugo (45), Paulina Ibe (45), Nneka Precious Sunday (30), Christopher Ibe (31), and Oyinyechi Ibe (48). The police also recovered a green Volkswagen Vento saloon car with registration number ANAMBRA FGG 40 AA, which was allegedly used in the operation.

A preliminary investigation is underway, with the suspects and the recovered vehicle in police custody. The command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal gangs that pose as taxi and tricycle operators to rob unsuspecting passengers.
