
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Border Patrol at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Banji Lawal, as the substantive Deputy Inspector General of Police representing the South West zone.
The Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, made this announcement in a statement to newsmen this Friday in Abuja.
Ani said that Lawal succeeded the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Sylvester Alabi, following his retirement on December 31, 2024.
He said Lawal had appeared before the commission in plenary this Friday. Also, he underwent oral and written examinations where he praised the Community Policing programme of the Nigeria Police Force, saying that it was successful and impactful.
Those who were in attendance included PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), retired Justice of the Supreme Court Adamu Galumje, and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd), FDC.
The PSC Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, congratulated Lawal on his promotion and urged him to make himself an indispensable member of the Police Management Team.
