Rep urges Tinubu to end violence, protect farmlands in Benue

A member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Kwande/Ushongu Federal Constituency, Terseer Ugbor, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to end the ongoing violence and killings in Benue State.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja this Tuesday, Ugbor condemned the recent attack on communities in the Kwande Local Government Area, where at least 19 people were reportedly killed.

He raised concerns that over 40 percent of the state’s arable farmlands have been taken over by suspected armed herders, significantly affecting food production.

Ugbor noted that similar attacks have persisted for over a decade in areas like Agatu, Gwer East, and Gwer West.

The lawmaker stressed that urgent intervention is needed to prevent worsening food insecurity in both Benue and the country.

He appealed for increased security presence in the region and called for better border management between Nigeria and Cameroon to curb infiltration by suspected bandits.
