Reps tells IG, COAS to flush out bandits in Katsina communities

The House of Representatives has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Army Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to intensify security operations against bandits and other criminal groups terrorising communities in Katsina State.

This resolution was reached on Tuesday after the House adopted a motion titled “Need to Enhance Security Operations Against Killings and Kidnappings by Bandits in Kafur/Malumfashi Federal Constituency, Katsina State,” presented by the member representing the Kafur/Malumfashi Federal Constituency, Muhammad Ibrahim.

Supporting the motion, Ibrahim condemned the rising banditry in the affected areas, which has led to widespread killings, kidnappings, and displacement.

Ibrahim noted that several communities—including Malumfashi town, Marabar Kankara, Na Alma, Yari Bori, Gidan Kaura, and Kuringafa—have been severely impacted, with many wealthy individuals fleeing due to safety concerns.

He further highlighted that victims often include young women, children as young as three or four years old, and security personnel.

He also revealed that a Divisional Police Officer in Kafur Local Government is still receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, after being shot while attempting to rescue residents from an attack.
