Gunmen suspected to be bandits have caused havoc in Gara and Gamji villages, located in the Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area in Bauchi State. The attackers, who arrived in large numbers, unleashed violence on the villagers, firing indiscriminately. As a result, seven individuals lost their lives while numerous others sustained injuries.

Ahmed Wakili, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Bauchi State Command, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with journalists. “Today, we were greeted with devastating news,” he stated. “We received a distress call reporting an attack launched by bandits on Kada and Gamji villages in the Burra district of Ningi LGA. The assailants arrived in significant numbers and began shooting randomly, leading to the death of seven individuals.”

Wakili went on to explain that law enforcement operatives, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, engaged the bandits in combat. “During the course of the operation, three of the attackers were neutralized, resulting in others fleeing into nearby bushes with potential gunshot wounds,” he revealed. “Unfortunately, one soldier sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.”

The victims have been identified as Ali Usman, Shuaibu Adamu, Yunusa Adamu, Ali Alton, and Umar Sabo Ibrahim, all from Gamji village.

In response to the tragic incident, Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammad expressed his condolences to the grieving families and offered prayers for the souls of the deceased. He also instructed the Area Commander to exhaust all legal means to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act.

An anonymous member of a local vigilante group, who witnessed the attack, shared his account of the events. He disclosed that the bandits arrived on Bajaaj motorcycles at approximately 9:00 pm on Tuesday, launching a brutal assault and claiming the lives of innocent people. The gunmen, believed to be the same bandits causing terror in the area, rode in on three motorcycles, heavily armed. “The local security forces were unable to confront them and had no choice but to take cover,” he explained.

According to the eyewitness, the bandits killed the Ward Head of Gara, Mai Anguwa Ali, aged 50, along with five other individuals. The victims include Alhaji Ibrahim, Shuaibu Adamu (45), Yunusa Adamu (50), Umaru Sabo (25), and Ali Aldo.

Efforts are currently underway, with the participation of security agencies and local vigilantes, to locate and apprehend the bandits.
