Suspects Apprehended for Assault on Osun Church During Vigil

Three suspects have been paraded at the Osun State Police Command’s headquarters following an alleged attack on a Celestial Church in Odu Village near Osogbo. The incident occurred during a vigil in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to reports, the suspects abducted 12 members of the church during the attack. However, the victims managed to escape when they encountered hunters and local volunteers who responded to a distress call.

Tragically, one church member was said to have been raped by the perpetrators during the incident. The victim has since received medical attention.

Esther Ayodeji, a musician who was present at the church vigil, arrived a few minutes after 10 pm on Monday to prepare for the event. She explained that after her performance, she stepped out of the church while her drummers remained inside.

Yemisi Opalola, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, cautioned against holding religious events in remote areas at odd hours.. Opalola confirmed that the three suspects arrested near the scene were still being questioned.

Alongside the suspects involved in the church attack, they paraded other individuals for offenses such as membership in unlawful societies and armed robbery. Adelayo Adedayo and Adeyemi Sodiq allegedly stole N877,000 and items from a business owner in Iragbiji after attacking him..

Opalla stated that Yusuf Baoku and Ajayi Ismail, who were apprehended for attempted murder and membership in an unlawful society, along with other suspects, would face charges once they completed the investigation.
