The FBI has informed a federal court in the United States that a former Chicago gangster with links to President Bola Tinubu has died.
This was said by the United States body on Wednesday as part of the latest update in an ongoing freedom of information case before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C.
“In light of receiving information that appears to confirm Mr Edwards’ death, DEA has begun its search for responsive records pertaining to him,” the United States authorities wrote in a court filing obtained by Peoples Gazette.
Officials did not reveal when or how Mr Edwards died, despite the fact that the announcement was worded in a way that suggested it would influence the schedule of future disclosure in the ongoing investigation.
The statement came after the authorities attempted to conceal evidence about Mr Tinubu’s role in a large narcotics enterprise in Chicago. Documents previously disclosed by the government revealed that Mr Edwards, along with Mr Tinubu, was a major member of a narcotics cartel that operated in the northern United States in the 1980s. At the time, investigators assumed Mr Tinubu was the syndicate’s boss.
